Erected about two years ago by Perak’s Menteri Besar, Galeri Pangkor houses dozens of ancient artefacts dating back to the Stone Age. If you would like to know more about Pangkor and its history, Galeri Pangkor is a must-go. You can also find traditional costumes and fishing boat models here.

After its rebuilding works in 1973, the Dutch Fort was gazetted as an important historical landmark for Pangkor Island.

The Dutch Fort, built in 1670, is one of the remaining historical ruins on Pangkor Island. The fort or ‘Kota Belanda’ in Malay was once used for storage and protection of tin supplies from the Sultanate of Perak in the olden days. It was destroyed but rebuilt again in 1973.

Mythical Rock of Pangkor

Legend has it that the Tiger Rock was engraved by the Dutch in remembrance of a Dutch dignitary’s son who was mauled by a tiger in 1743. Another version says that the Bugis and Malay people abducted and killed the child to avenge the cruelty and abusive treatment of the Dutch towards the locals during their reign.

Batu Bersurat, also known as Historical Rock or Tiger Rock is one of the most intriguing objects on Pangkor - it sits under a huge pavilion by the roadside. There are many mythical stories about the rock, locals believe that the rock is alive and continues to grow with time.
